Coach Luke comes from a family of strong soccer and coaching heritage. Trinity International University's, Schartner Field, is named in honor of his father, Mark Schartner, who was a longtime TIU soccer coach who in 1974, led the school to an NCCAA national soccer championship.  His father also coached the University's baseball, wrestling and golf teams for several years.

He played collegiate soccer at Palm Beach Atlantic and continues to play in area adult leagues
